7 ways to increase average order value on Shopify
More orders cost more ads. Bigger orders often cost nothing but a better offer. These are the seven levers that raise average order value on Shopify, in roughly the order to try them.
1. Quantity breaks on your best seller
"Buy 2, save 10% · buy 3, save 20%" on the product people already buy. It is the fastest win, because the demand is already there. How to set up quantity breaks.
2. A free shipping threshold
Set it a little above your current average order and show the progress in the cart: "You're $9 away from free shipping".
3. Buy X Get Y on consumables
"Buy 2, get 1 free" sells multiples of things people use up. How to set up BOGO.
4. Complete-the-set bundles
Pair products that belong together (cleanser, serum and moisturiser; a notebook and a pen) at a small set discount.
5. Mix and match boxes
Let customers build their own box of 3 or 6. Choice makes bigger orders feel like the customer's idea. How to build one.
6. Gifts that unlock as the cart grows
A free gift at $75, a second at $100. How to offer a free gift.
7. One-click add-ons
A checkbox under the main offer ("Add a matching case, $8") adds an accessory without a second page visit.
How to measure it
- Compare average order value and revenue per visitor for two weeks before and after. Conversion alone hides what happened to order size.
- Change one thing at a time, or use an A/B test, so you know which offer did the work.
- Watch your margin per order, not only the order value.
ZS Bundles does all seven from one app, and every bundle type is on the free plan. Each one runs live on our demo store.
